On-Field Focus
What’s your proudest moment on the football field for Souderton this season or in your career?
“I’d definitely have to go with my game winning touchdown against CB West. It was just such a big game for us against a really good team. It meant so much to be able to pull out the win for my team.”
Describe a play where you made a game-changing impact. What was going through your mind?
“Other than CB West, I’d probably have to go back to my sophomore year, first week of playoffs against Pennsbury. It was a close game all night and we were tied going into the 4th quarter. They got up a score on us 14-7 with around 3 minutes left. I just remember stepping up on the offensive side of the ball bringing in some nice catches on the two most important drives of the game to eventually bring the score to 21-14 in crunch time. This was big for me because I didn’t play much offense my sophomore year and I felt like I was showing the coaches a glimpse of what I could do offensively for my next season. I also got the game sealing interception on their last drive to try and tie the game, which is also a very memorable moment from my high school career.”
What’s the toughest part of playing WR & CB, and how do you prepare for it?
“At WR I’d say the toughest part is dealing with these good, physical corners who are trying to knock you off your route or jam you. You gotta find different ways to run your routes and fake them out to keep getting open. CB is definitely one of the hardest if not the hardest position in football in my opinion. I’d say the hardest part again is just going against these really talented guys who are quick, staying man to man can be really hard. The main thing is just making sure to be confident in myself and staying under control when in coverage.”
Which NFL player do you model your game after, and what do you admire about them?
“I really like DeVonta Smith's game. His hands are crazy good and I feel like some of the plays I have made remind me of his. He also shows that you don’t gotta be super tall or big to be great at WR. “
What’s a drill or skill you’re grinding to perfect before the season?
“Definitely my route running, I feel like perfecting this could make it that much harder to guard me. My hands are definitely my strongest trait on the field but making my cuts sharper and just getting faster in general could take me to the next level.”
Personal Story
How did you start playing football, and what keeps you passionate about it?
“I always loved playing football at recess with my friends and I realized I was pretty good. My friends told me I should play so I finally convinced my mom in 6th grade to sign me up.”
Who’s been your biggest supporter (e.g., coach, family, teammate) in your football journey?
“I have a bunch of family members who support me and come to see me play just about every game. My mom and stepdad have done alot for me and would always take me to all my practices and 7v7 tournaments when I was younger. My dad and my grandparents live 2 hours away but are still super supportive and come when they can. Coach Chuck Porter has also made a huge impact on me throughout my football journey. Hes always been so encouraging to me and I really appreciate and respect all he does. Then obviously my qb Ben Walsh, he’s always believed in me and trusts me on the field and has been a great teammate.”
What’s a challenge you’ve overcome—on the field or off—that’s made you a better player or person?
“My sophomore year when I was made a starter on varsity, I was completely new at corner. I had to learn the position quickly while also playing receiver and on special teams. I got alot of reps that year which really helped develop me as a player as well as building confidence in myself.”
How does playing in the Suburban One League shape your experience as a high school athlete?
“It’s very competitive and that’s what I like about it.”
Football Flair
What’s your pre-game ritual or superstition to get in the zone?
“Honestly just listening to music and getting locked in mentally. Every game I just visualize myself making big plays and getting in the end zone.”
What’s the one song on your pre-game playlist that fires you up, and why?
“Honestly I don’t have a specific song I listen to.”
What’s your nickname in the locker room, and how’d you earn it?
“A lot of my teammates just call me 6. I got it after I changed my number to #6 starting my junior season. I’m pretty sure it started after our win against CB West. Leading up to that game, one of my coaches, Coach White, kept saying in practice “when in doubt throw it to 6.” Then when the coaches were talking to us after the game and about my game winning touchdown, he said it again and since then it just stuck.”
If you could take one teammate’s skill for a game, whose would you pick and why?
“I’d have to go with my guy Jimmy Eakins. I’d take his aggression and just hitting ability. He’s one of the hardest hitters I know and he has no fear on the field.”
Future and Goals
What’s your biggest goal for this season with Souderton?
“I want to have 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Overall though, I’d love to get a 3rd league championship before I graduate.”
Are you eyeing college football? What’s your dream school or program to play for?
“I can see myself playing football in college. I am still narrowing down my options and am grateful to any program that offers me a chance to play for them.”
Where do you see yourself in football or life five years from now?
“I’d love to be playing football in college somewhere if given the opportunity. In life, I just want to have figured out what I want to do for a career. Right now I am leaning towards something to do with Sports medicine.”
Team and League Pride
What makes playing for Souderton in the Suburban One League special to you?
“Just getting to play against solid competition and against other big schools.”
Who’s an under-the-radar teammate who deserves more shine, and why?
“I’d have to go with Jimmy Eakins again. He hasn’t had many opportunities on varsity to show what he can do but he has a big season coming up. Anytime I wanna go to the gym or get a workout in he’s right there with me and is always helping me get better. I’ve seen how athletic he is and capable he is to make some big plays, I’m excited to see how this season goes for him.”
What’s the loudest or most memorable crowd moment you’ve experienced in a game?
“Probably another one from my sophomore year against CB East. They were undefeated and ranked #1 coming into our game. Everyone was talking about this game and honestly no one really expected us to win. We were up 23-21, it was the last drive of the game and it was for the win. It was 4th down and they threw it up to their best guy to try and convert but I broke on it and got a really nice pass breakup. I remember hearing and seeing my teammates and the crowd just going crazy, especially with me being a sophomore towards the beginning of the season.”
