Top Returning Defensive Linemen (DT's)
- 1. Jeff Cappa (C.B. West)- Cappa is said to be the strongest player on the Bucks pound for pound and isn’t overly opposing for a defensive tackle in that he stands 6’1”, 235 lbs. of solid muscle. The senior managed 41 total tackles, 12 TFL, 7 sacks, & 3 blocked kicks in his junior season, earning 1st Team All-National Conference honors. We expect this season to be no different. He will wreak havoc on opposing offensive linemen throughout the league and district.
- 2. Michael McCormick (Souderton)- For defensive tackles, most of the time, stats won’t grab your attention, but McCormick garnered it to the tune of 1st Team All-Continental Conference honors. He totaled 16 total tackles, 6 TFL, & 1 sack. He was constantly causing issues for the man lined up opposite him. With another year under his belt, we expect a repeat performance with an uptick in those stats.
- 3. Anthony Cimino (C.R. South)- The 6’1” 245 lb. defensive tackle received 2nd Team All-Continental Conference honors after recording 11 total tackles a season ago for the Golden Hawks. Cimino has all the tools necessary to be a top contributor for his team and the league. We expect more tackles and more playing time, which could earn 1st team consideration.
- 4. Magnus Figueroa (C.B. East)- Magnus totaled 35 tackles, 11 TFL, 2 sacks, & 2 blocked field goals during his junior campaign, which garnered Honorable Mention All-National Conference Honors. Figueroa is primed for a breakout performance again for the Patriots. He has been voted by not just one but two coaches as the best DT in the league. Now that’s some high praise! We expect huge things this season.
- 5. Shareef Roberts (Cheltenham)- The Cheltenham defensive tackle finds himself on this list again, but this time on the other side of the ball. Last season, on top of being a top offensive lineman, Roberts added 21 total tackles, 2 TFL, & 1 sack during his junior season. We expect the 6’3”, 280 lb. immovable object to make problems for opposing linemen and should be higher up on this list at the end of the season.
- 6. Owen Richwine (Quakertown)- Another student-athlete lost in the stats of other players on his team. Richwine totaled 26 total tackles, 2 TFL, & 1 sack this past season as a junior. Richwine stands 6’3”, 230 lbs. While slightly undersized for a DT, we expect him to also slide outside to defensive end. Either roll, he will feast.
- 7. Jack Silvers (North Penn)- Stands 5’10” and 230 lbs. The undersized DT is tough to block one-on-one and has developed a great pass rush, and is the team’s best run stopper, per head coach Dick Beck. That is some high praise from the coach! While his size doesn’t jump off the page, his tenacity and drive will cause problems for offensive linemen.
- 8. Shane Maloney (Hatboro Horsham)- Maloney stands 5’11” and 216 lbs. and is undersized. He didn’t garner any regular season honors, but the defensive tackle is a three-sport athlete (Football, Lacrosse, & Wrestling) and only a junior. We expect that with some added “healthy” weight and another year under his belt, he will be recognized as a top player in future years.
- 9. Tommy Ryan (Springfield)- Ryan stands 6’3” and 245 lbs. The two-way starter for the Spartans is a Captain this season, and head coach Chris Shelly is excited to see him in action. We expect big things from the budding senior who steps into his new role.
- 10. Kevin Williams (Upper Dublin)- The 6’3” 220 lb. Williams enters his junior season ready to make an even bigger impact than last season when he secured 41 total tackles, 4 sacks, & a pass defended. With someone lost to graduation, we expect Williams to be a key contributor for the Cardinals.
