SOi’s 2025 Top Returning Players: Running Backs

Top Returning Running Backs

  1.
  2. 1. Mike Price (C.B. East ’27)- The Junior 1st Team All-League back rushed for 1,259 yards and 14 total TDs (he threw one for a score) as a sophomore. Head Coach John Donnelly says, “He has a unique blend of size, vision, change of direction, and effortless speed. He has excellent hands and is a willing blocker.” We expect Price to surpass 2,000 yards as East brings back a veteran, savvy line and a slew of talented players at the skill positions.

  1. 2. Jordan Brensinger (Pennsbury ’26)- The Falcons’ senior lead back rushed for 1,154 yards and 7 TDs as a junior. The elusive back has breakaway speed and great vision. Standing at 170 lbs., he loves to be physical and does not shy away from would-be tacklers. We envision Head Coach Galen Snyder will give opposing teams a heavy but healthy dose of Brensinger all year, and those numbers from last season should only rise!

  1. 3. Matthew Pownall (North Penn '26)- Pownall is committed to play football at the Naval Academy next season. The budding senior totaled over 1,500+ all purpose yards and 9 touchdowns during his junior campaign. Head Coach Dick Beck returns a plethora of skilled players as well as one of the best QB's in the area so it's not to farfetched to believe Pownall will be at the top of the league again this season.

  1. 4. Aidan Mayfield (Bensalem ’26)- Mayfield has all the tools you want in a lead back. He’s also a beast in the classroom. During his junior campaign, he rushed for 1,115 yards and 16 TDs. Head Coach Alexander Houston says, “Aidan is primed for a huge senior year. He shows great leadership through his actions and is a team leader.” The Lehigh University commit got his commitment decision out of the way so that he could focus on his senior season. We expect great things from this young man, and don’t be shocked to see him at the top of the league again this year.

  1. 5. Quasir Sampson (Wissahickon ’27)- This young man shocked the Suburban One League onlookers in his freshman year by rushing for 902 yards and 13 scores. He followed that up with 1,009 yards and 12 TDs during his sophomore season on the way to 1st Team All-League RB honors. We expect that with two years under his belt, his numbers will progress enough to again be at the top of the league statistically.

  1. 6. Bryalen Cape (C.B. South ’27)- the Junior back had a standout sophomore campaign on a loaded statistical team. The young back made the best of his limited time to the tune of 726 yards and 11 TDs. Head Coach Tom Hetrick says, “Cape played a huge role in our backfield as a sophomore last season. He has elite speed and is a strong kid. Having him in our backfield as a junior is huge for us.” It’s easy to see why we think those modest numbers will climb, and he will eclipse the 1,000-yard mark.

  1. 7. William Dougherty (Pennridge ’26)- Dougherty totaled 617 total yards and 5 TDs as he split time in the Rams backfield with running mate Ryan Rowe. Dougherty is a smashmouth-style runner and loves contact. His numbers will rise in Head Coach Kyle Beller’s offense with another year under his belt. Is a 1,000-yard season possible? We think so, but only time will tell.

  1. 8. Carter Clee (Neshaminy ’26)- Clee is another back who shares a backfield and still belted out 457 yards and 4 TDs. Neshaminy is under the direction of a new head coach in Nick Felus, and we are unfamiliar with his system. Something tells us that Carter won’t have any issues, and the savvy unit on the line will lead the way for both backs, and Clee will benefit greatly.

  1. 9. Jared Higginbotham (Souderton ’26)- The senior back transferred in from Cheltenham, where he rushed for 423 yards and 6 TDs. Higginbotham’s small but powerful frame allows him to be extremely effective in both the running and passing game. Agent Zero, as he is referred to, joins a well-established backfield that includes another top back and some highly touted Skill players on the outside to go along with one of the best arms in the league in Ben Walsh. You can count on head coach Ed Gallagher and passing game coordinator Paul Fargo will utilize him to his fullest potential.

  1. 10. Sane Myers (C.R. South ’26)- Myers heads into his senior season primed to show all what he is capable of. As a junior, the back rushed for 408 yards and 4 TDs. Head Coach CJ Szydlik says, “Shane is a very hard runner, with great instincts and enough shake to make people miss in the hole.” We believe as the featured back, Myers has the potential to double his numbers and be atop the league at the end of the season.
