Mayhem's Game of the Week

Souderton Indians

League & Division: SOL-Continental

Head Coach: Ed Gallagher

Season Record: (1-0, 0-0)

Indian Notables: The Indians opened 2025 with a dominant 31-7 victory over Spring-Ford in Week 1. Senior quarterback Ben Walsh led the charge, completing 67% of his passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Senior receivers Timmy Meehan and Hunter Smeltz combined for 7 catches, 133 yards, and a score, while Jared Higginbotham contributed 59 rushing yards and 24 receiving yards. Defensively, seniors Meehan and Jimmy Eakins each recorded 7 tackles and a fumble recovery. Head coach Ed Gallagher reflected on the win: “I was pleased with our effort in the opening win over Spring-Ford. They caused us some matchup problems last year, but we did a much better job defending them this season.”

Facing a tough Week 2 matchup against CB South, who dropped a rare Week 1 game, Gallagher shared the game plan: “CB South has an outstanding offense - they have several good runners, including the quarterback. It will be a challenge to contain them. They did lose 9 starters from their excellent defense, so I’m hoping that we can score some points on them.” He chose senior Timmy Meehan as the featured student-athlete, stating, “Let’s go with Timmy Meehan as our featured student athlete for the week - he has been the captain of our defense for the past two seasons, and he had his most productive offensive performance on Friday.”

I caught up with Meehan to discuss the Week 1 success, the CB South matchup, and his gameday vibe. On the key to their convincing win: “Film study and hard work all off-season.” Addressing last year’s 21-6 loss to CB South, he said, “This game is huge for us, and last year definitely is giving us motivation to make sure there’s a different outcome this year.” For his gameday must-have song, Meehan picked “9 by Drake.”

 Central Bucks South Titans

League & Division: SOL-National

Head Coach: Tom Hetrick

Season Record: (0-1, 0-0)

Titans Notables: The Titans, who didn’t lose until the district semifinals last season, faced a surprising 39-28 defeat to Wood in Week 1. Senior running back Braylen Cape led the offense with 66 rushing yards and a 24-yard touchdown. Quarterback Cade Crim contributed a 12-yard rushing touchdown and a 40-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Ahuja, while Gavin Graham added a 50-yard rushing score. Defensively, senior linebacker Jack Bartolillo (5’10”, 220 lbs.), a 2nd-Team All-League MIKE backer, was a force, cleaning up plays with his relentless motor and authoritative presence. Head coach Tom Hetrick reflected on the loss: “Wood played a better game than us. They deserved to win that one. Our effort was there but we didn’t play up to the level that my guys expect out of themselves.”

Looking ahead to a challenging Week 2 matchup against a red-hot Souderton team, Hetrick said, “Souderton is always a tough team. Their staff does a great job up there year in and year out. We just need to keep focusing on the things we need to do to continue to raise our level of play.” He selected quarterback Cade Crim as the featured student-athlete, noting, “Cade Crim is our QB and one of our captains. He has been a great leader through the start of this season. He is smart and athletic, and we are expecting big things from him this season.”

I caught up with Crim to discuss the Week 1 setback, the Souderton matchup, and his gameday vibe. On the team’s mindset after the loss: “The mindset is the same as it always is, Obsess over the next one. Last week is last week and we won’t get that one back. The best thing we can do is control what’s right in front of us, which is Souderton.” On facing the Indians: “As you said, they’re a great team and we’re definitely going to have to play at a high level to win this one. For us, the most important thing is understanding the gameplan and our specific assignments perfectly, which will allow us to play with speed and confidence on both sides of the ball.” For his gameday music, Crim prefers a calm vibe: “I’m not a huge hype music guy, I like to calm myself down before games. Anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers does the job for me.”
