CB South Capitalizes on Strong Second Half in Win Vs Abington

CB South entered this contest looking to even up their record at .500, while Abington looked to pick up a win to break their 5-game losing streak. South started strong with a stop followed by a 26-yard passing TD to Braylen Cape. South forced another stop, but Abington would respond by forcing a fumble, only for South to respond with another stop. After each team traded fumbles, Abington would tie it up with a touchdown to Ayden Turner. Both teams exchanged rushing touchdowns, and the game was tied 14-14 at the half. South came out of the half firing, with Braylen Cape scoring his second TD of the game to take the lead. After another fumble and Braylen Cape’s THIRD TD of the game, South pulled out the win. I spoke with Coach Hetrick about the win.

Me: What do you think your team did well tonight to pull off the win?

Coach Hetrick: The first half was obviously a battle, and I give Abington a lot of credit. They made plays, and we shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times, and they capitalized on our mistakes. I wasn’t happy at halftime, and neither were my players. I challenged them to come out in the second half and play at the level I know they can play, and they absolutely responded. They manned up and came out and won the second half. I was pleased with our effort in the second half and doing the things we needed to do to bring it home, because it was a heck of a football game, and I give Abington a lot of credit.

I then spoke with this week’s player of the game, Braylen Cape, after his three-touchdown performance.

Me: What do you attribute your success to tonight?

Braylen: "It was just the effort out of everyone, like even on kickoffs, it’s everyone giving 100%. Then on offense, it’s our o-line usually, they always give 100% no matter what. But tonight, everyone stepped up. Our receivers blocked well, and everyone on defense too, especially at the linebacker and corner position. They really stepped up with the passing game and all that stuff."

Me: Do you have a pregame tradition?

Braylen: I always eat a banana 3 hours before the game and another one right before the game.

CDS Wealth Player Of The Game

I caught up with Coach Fleming and asked about his thoughts on Abington’s performance.

Me: What do you think went well tonight?

Coach Fleming: Tonight, we showed toughness, heart, and effort.  These were 3 of the 4 things I challenged the team this week to show and improve.  I'm happy for these three areas, and want to see the group build on these for the remaining 2 weeks.

Me:What needs improvement?

Coach Fleming: Our execution still needs improvement.  We have to improve in this area to finish out games.

Both teams move on to their respective senior nights next week, with CB South taking on Neshaminy, and Abington matching up with Pennsbury.
