Wyncote — Cheltenham High School has decided not to renew the contract of head football coach Troy Gore after four seasons. Gore, who began his tenure in 2021 and made history as the school’s first African American head football coach, led the Panthers to a 19-24 record during his time at the school.
With over 30 years of coaching experience, Gore brought a wealth of knowledge to Cheltenham. Before taking the head coaching role, he served as offensive coordinator at Northeast High School from 2018 to 2020 and at Neumann-Goretti in 2017. He also posted a 23-13 record as head coach at the now-closed Delaware Valley Charter High School from 2014 to 2016.
Reflecting on his time at Cheltenham, Gore shared, “Cheltenham is a great school with awesome kids. My four years there were filled with learning, growth, and building relationships that will last a lifetime.” He added, “Some of the best coaches in the world have faced similar moments. I’m in good company, and I know my Panther players will thrive because they have great families supporting them.”
At 54, Gore’s next steps remain unclear, but his extensive experience and trailblazing tenure suggest he’ll continue to make an impact in coaching. Athletic director Samuel Sheridan was unreachable for comment at the time of publication, stay tuned for updates as they come in.
