Mayhem’s Game of the Week
North Penn Knights @ Quakertown Panthers
Alumni Memorial Field | Friday September 5 | 7pm
600 Park Avenue, Quakertown, PA 18951
Team Deets:
Head Coach: Dick Beck (24th Season)
League & Conference: SOL-National
Season Record: (2-0, 0-0)
Last Week: Defeated C.R. South 21-14
Knight’s Notables: The Knights have been a force early in 2025, with their Week 2 win showcasing grit and playmaking ability. Senior Matt Pownall powered the offense, rushing for 51 yards and hauling in a touchdown reception. Wideout Mason Franek was a standout, snagging six passes for 84 yards and a score. The game-clincher came from Rylei Grey, whose 14-yard touchdown run sealed the 21-14 victory. Defensively, Jack Silvers, a three-year starter at defensive tackle, has been a wrecking ball, racking up 11 solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack in the first two weeks. Head coach Dick Beck is leaning on this balanced attack to keep the Knights rolling. Coach Dick Beck knows what’s at stake and laid out a clear game plan: “Run the ball with consistency, protect the passer, don’t give up long ball on defense, & tackle better than last week.” Reflecting on last year’s 35-12 rout, Beck is keeping his team focused on execution to counter Quakertown’s firepower.
Featured Student-Athlete: Jack Silvers
Coach Beck didn’t hesitate to name Jack Silvers as the player to watch: “Jack Silvers is a DTackle who has played great in the 1st 2 weeks with 11 solo tackles 2 TFL’s and 1 Sack, 3 year starter.” Silvers, a senior leader, shared his thoughts on the matchup.
On facing Quakertown after last year’s win, he said: “Last year was a good bounce-back for us since we had lost to them the year before. But we know they’re a good team, and we’re not letting the result of last year determine our mindset this time around. We did lose some key guys from last year’s team. But I also feel like with all the returning guys from last year’s team and the hard work we put in during the offseason, we’re very confident as a team that we can come out of this game with a victory.” When asked about containing Brady Martin, Silvers emphasized defensive discipline: “Yeah, I mean, the film speaks for itself, he’s a great player who can not only throw the ball really well but is also very dangerous with his legs. I don’t know many QBs who play both sides of the ball, so credit to him. But as a defense, we’ve got to make sure we keep him inside the pocket and create havoc up front so he can’t hurt us with his legs.” And what gets Silvers in the zone on gameday? “I don’t really consider myself a huge music guy, but on game day it’s essential for me. Any type of rap really gets me going, and right now my favorite song to listen to before a game is Toxic by Playboi Carti.”
Head Coach: George Banas (14th Season)
League & Conference: SOL-Continental
Season Record: (1-1, 0-0)
Last Week: Defeated Pennsbury 14-7
Panthers Notables: After a Week 1 loss to powerhouse Southern Lehigh, the Quakertown Panthers (1-1) bounced back in Week 2, defeating Pennsbury 14-7 behind a stellar performance from quarterback Brady Martin, who completed eight passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Marcus Baxter led the defense with 10 tackles. Coming off a 7-5 season in 2024 where they shared the Continental Conference crown, the Panthers face a formidable challenge against the undefeated North Penn Knights, who dominated them 35-12 last year. Coach George Banas highlighted the team’s youth as both a challenge and advantage: “We are definitely younger in many spots, so we have to limit those mistakes that young players make. On the flip side they do not have a mental reference to being beat by them last year and do not really fear anything or any team because they do not have that mental reference.” Against North Penn’s balanced roster, Banas stressed, “We are going to have to rely on the seniors that we do have starting and have them lead by making big plays and stopping explosive plays from NP.”
Featured Student-Athlete: Jackson Connelly
Coach Banas selected senior Jackson Connelly as the player to watch. Connelly outlined the game plan: “Offensively, we just have to keep our foot on the gas. In the first quarter last week, we scored 14 points, but couldn’t find the end zone again... Sticking with our blocks will be a big difference maker. Defensively, we need to be ready for all the formations they throw at us, and we need to be more physical than they are in the trenches.” Reflecting on last year’s 35-12 loss, he added, “Last season’s outcome definitely gives us motivation to beat these guys this year. This year’s team is a younger squad, and we’re looking for those guys to really find their footing at the varsity level.” Connelly’s gameday vibe? “I would say Old Rock is the kind of music that is mostly played in the locker room.”
