Souderton Shines in 19-7 Victory Over CB South

SOUDERTON, Pa. — The Indians (2-0, 0-0) showcased their depth and resilience, defeating the C.B. South Titans (0-2, 0-0) 19-7 in a Suburban One League crossover battle on Friday night. Led by a stellar performance from senior quarterback Ben Walsh and a versatile roster, Big Red capitalized on key moments to secure the win.

Souderton’s offense, orchestrated by Walsh, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns, kept the Titans’ defense on its heels. The CDS Wealth Management Player of the Game connected with sophomore tight end/linebacker Chase Hart for touchdown receptions of 11 and 19 yards, with Hart also delivering punishing hits on defense to earn co-Player of the Game honors. Senior fullback/defensive tackle Michael McCormick demonstrated his two-way prowess, contributing a big 19-yard run on a crucial scoring drive and booming a 67-yard punt that pinned the Titans deep.

“I think we’re doing a really good job of rotating our guys, keeping our guys fresh,” Souderton coach Ed Gallagher said. “A lot of two-way players, but also a lot of one-way guys who can also go out and do things. They come up big when they need to, and for the most part, we can keep our guys fresh.”

A pivotal defensive stand early in the second quarter, stopping CB South on fourth-and-7 at the Big Red 22-yard line with the score tied at 7, set the stage for a go-ahead touchdown pass from Walsh to Hart. Later, a 28-yard run by Jarde Higginbotham on third-and-11 sparked a fourth-quarter drive, capped by Walsh’s four-yard shovel pass to Timmy Meehan, sealing the 19-7 victory.   Souderton’s balanced attack generated 288 total yards, with 160 passing and 128 rushing, led by Higginbotham’s 60 yards on nine carries and Caleb Moyer’s 40 yards on five attempts. The Indians’ defense, bolstered by Hart and McCormick, held firm, thwarting a late CB South drive at the six-yard line after penalties and a missed field goal.

CB South, navigating a transitional season with younger players, showed improvement from their Week 1 loss. Junior Gavin Graham ran for 91 yards and recorded two sacks, while freshman Trent Haviland snagged a third-quarter interception. Titans coach Tom Hetrick praised his team’s progress, saying, “An old coach of mine, Larry Greene, used to say the best work and the most improvement you’d see in a season was between Week 1 and Week 2. I think we definitely did that tonight.”

Despite the Titans’ efforts, Souderton’s depth and clutch plays proved decisive. With a 7-2 record against SOL National Conference teams over the past three-plus seasons, the Indians are poised for another strong campaign. They’ll look to stay perfect in crossover play when they host Central Bucks West (1-1) in their home opener next Friday, while CB South seeks its first win at Upper Dublin (0-2).
