Conrad-Weiser Holds Off Abington in 29-22 Thriller at Schwartzman Stadium

Abington

On Friday night, the Conrad-Weiser Scouts edged out the Abington Ghosts 29-22 at Abington’s Schwartzman Stadium in a thrilling matchup. The Ghosts struck first, scoring on their opening drive for an early 7-0 lead. The Scouts responded swiftly, matching the touchdown on their next possession. Conrad-Weiser surged ahead in the first half, building a two-touchdown advantage before Abington answered with another score just minutes before halftime. In the third quarter, the Scouts added a fourth touchdown, bolstered by a successful two-point conversion. However, Abington’s defense tightened, stifling Conrad-Weiser’s offense for the remainder of the game. With six minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Ghosts narrowed the gap to a one-possession game with their third touchdown. Despite a resilient defensive stand, Abington’s offense couldn’t overcome the Scouts’ dominant defense, sealing their defeat.

After the game, I spoke with Abington’s Coach Fleming about the team’s preparation and outlook.

Malone: “What are some things you do before games to help you succeed, like pre-game meals or routines?”

Fleming: “I like to take a nap beforehand but when it comes to a pre-game meal, it varies. I’ll sometimes go for some Chick-Fil-A or even a cheesesteak. I also try my best to get my hands on an energy drink.”

Malone: “Who are some rising stars on your team who you cannot wait to see more from as the season continues?”

Fleming: “One player I would say is Miles Yockus, he is a sophomore and made his first varsity start today. He played a few snaps last season but has grown a lot since. Our offensive line has grown a lot as well.”

Malone: “Next week, you guys play at Truman. What are some changes you will be making to improve the team overall?”

Fleming: “We lost a few players in the last two weeks due to injury during training camp and their addition in the line-up next week will hopefully make a big difference.”
