On-Field Focus
What’s your proudest moment on the football field for CR South this season or in your career?
“My proudest moment from this past season was definitely the Cheltenham game. We were down at halftime and were able to rally together and make some adjustments. Seeing our team battle back like that was amazing to see and we ended up winning by 1.”
Describe a play where you made a game-changing impact. What was going through your mind?
“A play that comes to mind would be my screen pass touchdown versus Frankford week 1. In the beginning of the game we kept going back and forth. We were up by a touchdown and I caught a screen pass and ran it 50 yds for a touchdown. I believe this gave us that spark and confidence to finish out the rest of the game.”
What’s the toughest part of playing RB and DB, and how do you prepare for it?
“The toughest part about playing DB and RB would just be the stamina side of it. I enjoy having to prepare on both sides and being able to bring some versatility to the team. It’s just important to remember to always be giving 100% in practice no matter what we are doing. That’s the only way you’ll be able to stay ready in game.”
Which NFL player do you model your game after, and what do you admire about them?
“I love watching Cam Skattebo run the football. He recently got drafted, but in college, he was one of my favorite players. I’m a pretty hard runner, and seeing the way he runs the ball is how I picture myself in the future. He also brings some shiftiness and has great balance as well. He's someone I watch very often and try to model my game after.”
What’s a drill or skill you’re grinding to perfect before the season?
“I’ve definitely been focusing on becoming more quick or shifty this off season. You aren’t always able to run someone over and it’s important to have some moves in your bag.”
Personal Story
How did you start playing football, and what keeps you passionate about it?
“I started playing football when I was 7 years old. I love playing because of the team aspect of it. There isn’t anything like running out on a Friday night with the guys who have been grinding with you all year. Being able to perform well for your teammates as well and make them proud is an even better feeling.”
Who’s been your biggest supporter (e.g., coach, family, teammate) in your football journey?
“My biggest supporters have definitely been my family throughout my whole career. My parents were always there to take me to practices and come support me at games. Having two older brothers to push me and support me along the way also helped me a ton. Having some tough love from my brothers then also the support from my parents is a perfect combination.”
What’s a challenge you’ve overcome—on the field or off—that’s made you a better player or person?
“A challenge I’ve had to overcome has definitely been some recent injuries. I’ve had two concussions since I started highschool football and it’s definitely been a little tough. I’ve learned a lot about myself through the process of recovery. The hard work and determination that goes into getting myself game ready. It won’t always be fun or easy, and most of the time it’s boring. But if you want to be able to help your teammates out on Friday nights then it’s the steps that need to be taken.”
How does playing in the Suburban One League shape your experience as a high school athlete?
“Suburban One has some of the best football around here. It’s definitely a blessing to play against some of these teams. Every Friday night you know it’s going to be a dog fight and it’s something to look forward to. If you’re a competitor then you want to play the best of the best and I believe that’s what Suburban One football brings.”
Football Flair
What’s your pre-game ritual or superstition to get in the zone?
“I always like to find somewhere alone and quiet before the games. Just so I can settle down because at this time I’m usually pretty amped up. I just like to think about how blessed I am to be in this position and visualize what I can do out there on the field.”
What’s the one song on your pre-game playlist that fires you up, and why?
“I would say First Day Out by Tee Grizzley. Just gets the whole team going and ready to fly around on the field.”
What’s your nickname in the locker room, and how’d you earn it?
“Don’t have a nickname.”
If you could take one teammate’s skill for a game, whose would you pick and why?
“I would choose Nate Szydlik’s ability to fly around on defense. The way he’s able to run sideline to sideline at linebacker is exciting to watch.”
Future and Goals
What’s your biggest goal for this season with CR South?
“Our biggest goal this season is to compete for a State Championship. The standard isn’t just making the playoffs anymore. We believe we should make the playoffs and then also make a run while we are there.”
Are you eyeing college football? What’s your dream school or program to play for?
“I am definitely looking to play college football. I don’t really have a dream school to play for I believe that the best fit will come to me. Whatever school gives me an opportunity to play for them and show what I can do is going to be my dream school.”
Where do you see yourself in football or life five years from now?
“I believe that in five years I will be playing college football. At whatever college I end up, I would have hopefully created a legacy and name for myself in that uniform. Hopefully, I had a career that people who come after me will remember.”
Team and League Pride
What makes playing for CR South in the Suburban One League special to you?
“The culture we are creating right now is pretty special. Having grown up playing with most of the guys on our team makes the brotherhood even stronger. Over the years, we have seen our culture shift from what it used to be. It’s exciting to see the foundation that we are creating for future hawks that come through the program.”
Who’s an under-the-radar teammate who deserves more shine, and why?
“A teammate that deserves more shine would be our QB, Marley Emerson. He’s a class of 2027, and some of the throws I’ve seen him make are special. I believe he’s going to be a great high school and future college QB.”
What’s the loudest or most memorable crowd moment you’ve experienced in a game?
“The opening touchdown of the South vs North game my sophomore season.”
